School Bus Services (SBS) would like to advise all our Contractors that existing fire extinguishers on your vehicles will now need to comply with changes to the Australian Standards (AS 1851).
The new requirements of the Australian Standards (AS 1851), specifies that all mobile fire extinguishers must now be inspected every 6 months with a total life span of 5 years for the actual unit.
What this means is that, you will need to have your existing fire extinguisher inspected every 6 months as required by the Australian Standards (AS 1851) and it will need to be passed and date stamped by an organisation competent and authorised to provide the appropriate certification.
Please contact your SBS Vehicle Inspection Team, if you require any additional clarification relating to this matter.

Heavy Vehicle Stickers
The Department of Transport (DOT) has stopped issuing windscreen registration stickers for private vehicles. However, a unique registration sticker is issued for heavy vehicles. When you renew your vehicle registration, DOT will provide you with a heavy vehicle registration sticker, this sticker must be affixed to your vehicle windscreen immediately and you must also ensure that the current vehicle registration papers for your vehicle are carried in the vehicle at all times.
School Bus Tenders
Since the implementation of the Evergreen School Bus Contract on 1 July 2013, the Public Transport Authority has finalised the tendering process to allow expiring fixed term contracts to be retendered as Evergreen Contracts.
The School Bus Services Branch has released new tenders onto the open market on Monday 18 August 2014.
This initial round of tenders will consist of five contracts which will be offered under the new Evergreen contract regime and will replace existing short term contracts.
Please note there is now a major difference between this new process and how tendering was previously conducted, namely a two-step evaluation process.
If a tenderer is assessed as being suitable to manage a contract via the qualitive assessment at step one, they will progress to step two of the tender process which will require tenderers to make an offer (a payment known as an entry fee) to Government for the Contract. The Entry Fee will be assessed and a preferred tenderer will be chosen. If negotiations are successful the preferred tenderer is then required to pay the proposed entry fee before commencing the Contract.
The tender documentation is only available at www.Tenders.wa.gov.au and you will need to be registered with the website to access the tender documentation.
Pease note that Evergreen Contracts, are not being retendered.
